Illustrious Sirs,
It would be a great honor and immense gratification to me, if I could be the first to publish a résumé of the libretto of the comic opera "Falstaff" previous to its being brought out in the stage. I mean the first to publish it in a London paper, where, on account both of the great genius of the two collaborateurs, and of the source from which the libretto is taken, it `s sure to excite the greatest interest. That our great poet should be so well appreciated by two distinguished ltalians as to inspire them with the masterpiece "Otello", and now again with an entirely different work is of course very grateful to our English feelings.
My request will not, I hope, seem presumptuous; for outlines of many great works are often published before they actually appear. The time, of course, rests entirely at your disposition. My paper is one of the highest character in London, the "Daily News" and I always strive to serve it well and truthfully in all that concerns Italy.
